Personal consultation service

We offer a personal consultation service that enables our design team to work closely alongside you from the outset. Accompanied with a measuring, design and fitting service, our aim throughout is to ensure you love your final curtain creation.

Understanding you

Firstly, we begin the process by meeting with you, usually in the showroom. This gives us the opportunity to show you an array of different fabrics. This usually leads to the second appointment in your home or at your premises. This second meeting provides us with a better understanding of the size and style of your room. We will identify important factors such as lighting and views from your windows. We can also discuss your personal taste and note the style of the other furnishings in your room and home.

Which fabric?

Based on your feedback made in the initial meeting at the showroom, we will bring various fabrics, which you can now view in the comfort and setting of your own home.

We will give you expert advice on curtain styles, colours and fabrics which will be perfect for your room and your personal taste. Once this consultation has taken place, and the fabrics are decided, we are perfectly placed to begin our labour of love.

Curtain Styles

Katharine Ellen Designs hand make different types of elegant curtain headers and we are able to show you a range of curtain styles in our showroom. Pinch pleats, pencil pleats, eyelets are the most well known, but we also offer goblet pleat, partridge pleat, wave heading amongst so many more! We also have a wealth of experience with apex windows but whatever your window type we will always give you the best advice.

Supply your own fabric?

Occasionally customers will supply their own fabric for us to work with. A surcharge is applied in order to ensure the project is viable which thankfully customers understand. Lots of soft furnishing companies are not willing to work with customer supplied fabrics but we like to be as flexible as possible, and we will happily advise on the styles the fabrics will allow and the quantities required.

Perfected Workmanship

All our curtains are handmade using beautiful materials and using techniques that combine age-old skills, which only the most conscientious seamstress will fully appreciate.

Appreciating fabrics

Skilled workmanship is paramount to the final creation, a machine cannot ‘feel the fabric’. Only through our years of experience can a seamstress truly understand and appreciate a fabric. For instance, how the patterns work, making sure the curtains are made with respecting the weave of the fabric that ensures your curtains hang beautifully.

Every step of the way

From start to finish we make sure our attention to detail provides for a perfect finish. All our curtains are lined and perfectly weighted, our measuring service offers precision and no room for error. Fitting only takes place by only those with expertise and a love for the finished look.

We know how important linings are when governing how your curtains will hang as well as keeping out daylight. What we call standard lining is actually premium, high-end cotton, and using only the very softest blackout and fleece. We also use Interlink which is a lining that helps to retain heat, helps dampen sound and makes your curtains look thick and luxurious.

Equally important, we make sure only the finest tracks, poles, pelmets, and tie backs are included within your project.

Curtain Restoration

Our honest approach means we will always let you know if your curtains are
beyond restoration. However, if this is something really important to you, we are happy to accommodate this if at all possible. It is not usually the cheapest option as it is often hard work, but it is something Katharine Ellen Designs is happy to offer.
