Designer Paints

Katharine embraces colour and its effects at the very start of every project.

Designer paints

When it comes to home design, understanding colour theory and designer paints helps with colour harmonization. It is really important to choose the right colours as the hues can influence moods, add to the ambiance, and affect how a person feels.

Colours play a significant role in human psychology and emotions. Katharine is only too aware of this and she embraces colour and its effects at the very start of every project.

Fabric and wallcoverings

The fabric or wallcoverings are the most important elements in a room in governing colour. You can then select all other colours around these, known as ‘Hero Piece(s)’.

However, they can also be a lovely item of furniture, a painting, or even a beautiful garden. It is whatever you feel has the wow factor for the room which you want to frame or draw attention to. Everything else in the room needs to compliment and enhance this.

Hero pieces

Firstly, it’s wise to select ‘favourite items’ for your room. You may have a couple of favourites…may it be the fabric you choose for your curtains or upholstery, or statement wallpaper, something you have fallen in love with. It’s the most important thing in your room.

If you are hoping to paint your room, we would always recommend you choose you hero pieces first. Whatever you fall in love with and want to celebrate within your room is what will make the room your ‘happy place’.

Working backwards

You have to work backwards. If you start with the paint first you end up limiting your options for your favourite piece.

But this doesn’t come without it’s pains, a change in your choice of “key pieces” or not doing enough research could cost you. Colour matching first, has caused many people having to repaint their entire room!

This is why paint samples are so important and why we only include high quality paints and luxury wallpapers.

Why choose designer paints?

Designer Paints are expensive but there are good reasons for this: –

  • They have been carefully selected…painstakingly so!
  • They are tested for lighting…night light is so different to daylight, a gloomy day so different to a sunny one.
  • They have more pigmentation…so less likely to fade compared to everyday decorative paint.
  • You can just tell…walk into a room with a designer paint and to anyone with a hint of interest in home decor..they will just know!

Our recipe for a beautiful room

  • Don’t paint your room first! You may have to forgo some beautiful fabrics as they ‘won’t go!’ or end up repainting your room.
  • Be mindful that wall paint is like a backing singer, it shouldn’t ever be the lead singer!
  • Choose your Hero Piece with care, why restrict yourself by choosing something plain when you could choose something you love!?!
  • If painting your room use a Designer Paint…don’t compromise.
  • Carefully put this together and your “Happy Room” awaits.
